Die SOKO-Kommissare werden zu einem idyllischen See gerufen, wo die Leiche einer jungen Frau namens Sonja Wagner aus dem Wasser geborgen wird. Die Ermittler suchen deren Mutter Ida Wagner auf und lernen eine verschlossene, vom Schicksal geprägte Frau kennen, die nicht nur um ihre Tochter Sonja trauert. Es gibt noch zwei Brüder, die Zwillinge Dominik und Sebastian, von denen einer verschwunden ist. Auf einer alten Filmaufnahme entdeckt Lorenz Rettig eine weitere Schwester. Hier fängt das Verwirrspiel erst richtig an. Das Haus am See scheint der Ort einer großen Familientragödie zu sein. Vor allem Tom geht die Geschichte nah, denn auch in seiner Familie gibt es einen ungelösten Konflikt.
