Schimanskis Kollege und Freund, Inspektor Hollai, der drei Jahre als V-Mann im Untergrund gearbeitet hatte, ist "verbrannt" - die andere Seite hat erfahren, daß er Polizist ist. Nun kehrt er in den Polizeidienst zurück. Er hat von einem Millionending gehört, das geplant wird: ein Geldtransport soll überfallen werden. Zusammen mit Schimanski bearbeitet er den Fall. Schimanski merkt, wie schwer es seinem Freund fällt, die angenommene Existenz als Krimineller aufzugeben, sich an den Alltagstrott, die Büroarbeit des normalen Polizeidienstes zu gewöhnen.
