Gerda Pommer, die als freiberufliche Bilanzbuchhalterin für verschiedene Firmen arbeitet, lernt im Intercity von Hamburg nach Karlsruhe einen elegant gekleideten Mitvierziger kennen, der ihr, die körperbehindert ist, am Zielort anbietet, sie in einem Taxi zu ihrer Wohnung zu bringen. Wochen später wird Gerda bei einem Banküberfall als Geisel genommen. Der Täter flieht mit ihr in ihrem Auto, das sie vor der Bank geparkt hat. In einer Nebenstraße steigt er aus und entkommt. Kommissar Lutz und sein Assistent Wagner treffen am Tatort ein. Die Aussagen der Zeugen sind widersprüchlich. Lutz bekommt von einem Beamten den Hinweis, dass sich die Geisel telefonisch gemeldet habe. Die erste Vernehmung von Gerda durch Lutz ergibt auch nur eine vage Täterbeschreibung. Für Lutz und Wagner deuten alle Erkenntnisse darauf hin, dass es sich bei dem Täter um einen Profi handeln muss, der seine Tat minutiös geplant hat. - Der Anfang einer schwierigen Ermittlungsarbeit.
