Ein skrupelloser Mann muss eine gefährliche Zeugin loswerden und hat gleichzeitig den Auftrag, für den „Profi“ eine Waffe zu besorgen. Sein Pech ist nur, dass die Polizei eine Warnung bekommt. Kriminalhauptkommissar Stoever erhält einen anonymen Anruf: „Ein Killer ist in der Stadt, das Opfer nimmt an einer wissenschaftlichen Tagung der Alfred-Bergmann-Stiftung teil.“ Mehr weiß die Anruferin nicht, oder mehr will sie nicht sagen. „Eine Spinnerin“, meint Stoevers Kollege Brockmöller und wendet sich wieder seiner Arbeit zu. Ein „banaler Alltagsmord“ erfordert seine volle Aufmerksamkeit. Aber dann staunt Brockmöller nicht schlecht, als es klar wird, dass sein Mordfall und die mysteriöse Killer-Story miteinander zu tun haben. Am Ende gelingt der Hamburger Kripo ein großer Schlag - ein Waffenhändlernest kann ausgehoben werden. Und dennoch hat Stoever keinen Grund, zufrieden zu sein: Eine große Liebe ist zerstört, nicht ohne seine Schuld.
