Der Frankfurter Geschäftsmann Bernd Heine wird von einem Berufskiller erschossen. Kommissar Brinkmann und seine Assistentin Alice Bothe vermuten den Täter zunächst im Kreis von Heines Kunden. Er macht das große Geld mit dem Aufkauf und Ausschlachten maroder Firmen. Erst später erfährt der Kommissar, dass es eine Zeugin geben muss, die den Mord direkt beobachtet hat. Aber auch die Auftraggeber des Killers erhalten diese Nachricht und verlangen von ihm, dass er die gefährliche Zeugin beseitigt.
