Eine junge Altenpflegerin, Anna Kowski, wurde im Waschkeller ihres Mietshauses ermordet. Die erste Spur führt die Kommissare Saalfeld und Keppler zur Familie Holst, deren demenzkranker Opa Karl am Vorabend von Anna als letzter Patient versorgt worden war. Frau Holst berichtet, dass es vor ihrem Haus einen handfesten Streit zwischen Anna und ihrem eifersüchtigen Freund Daniel gegeben hat. Als die Kommissare Daniel Bergmann befragen wollen, der in einem Bestattungsunternehmen arbeitet, erkennt Keppler den jungen Mann wieder, den er bereits am Abend zuvor am Tatort gesehen hatte. Dass Anna sich von ihrem Freund trennen wollte, leugnet Daniel zunächst hartnäckig, gibt dann aber eine Auseinandersetzung in Annas Wohnung zu. Den Mord jedoch bestreitet er und belastet stattdessen den Chef des Pflegedienstes, für den Anna gearbeitet hatte. Mike Breuker soll seine Mitarbeiter ausgebeutet und schlecht bezahlt haben. Wie es scheint, wollte sich die bei ihren Patienten sehr beliebte Anna das nicht länger gefallen lassen und hat ihren Chef mit ihrem Wissen über falsche Krankenkassen-Abrechnungen erpresst ...
