"Ich möchte einen Mord melden": Es ist schon spät, als ein Mann namens Sven Döring in der Frankfurter Mordkommission Einlass begehrt, um diese Meldung zu machen. Hauptkommissarin Conny Mey führt ihn in das Büro ihres Kollegen Hauptkommissar Frank Steier, den einzigen Raum, in dem noch Licht brennt. "Mein Sohn liegt seit einem Jahr im Koma, und ich weiß, dass seine Freundin Mariam versucht hat, ihn zu ermorden, und dass ihr Kollege Seidel diese Tat vertuscht hat", klagt Döring.
Auf die beiden Kommissare wirkt er extrem gefährlich. Er scheint etwas zu planen, womöglich will er sich an der vermeintlichen Täterin rächen. Kommissarin Mey besteht darauf, zu der jungen Frau zu fahren und sie zu beschützen, doch "wir sind die Mord- und nicht die Mordverhinderungskommission", sagt Steier. Ein klassisches Polizeidilemma.
