Feierabendzeit an einem Herbsttag in Stuttgart. Die Stadt steht im Stau. Alle wollen nach Hause, keiner kommt voran. In einer Wohngegend liegt ein junges Mädchen tot am Rande der Fahrbahn. Schädelbasisbruch, das könnte ein Unfall mit Fahrerflucht sein, aber auch eine absichtliche Tötung. Der einzige Zeuge ist erst drei Jahre alt und entsprechend unzuverlässig, wie Sebastian Bootz bei der eher mühsamen Befragung feststellt. Die einzige Straße vom Tatort führt geradewegs in den Stau. Also macht Thorsten Lannert sich auf zu der Wagenschlange, bei der gerade gar nichts vorwärts geht, sichert Spuren, sammelt Aussagen und begegnet dabei der ganzen Bandbreite von zunehmend gereizten Heimkehrern.
