Das junge Elternpaar Anna und Louis Bürger will sein Leben endlich auf die Reihe bekommen – feste Arbeit für beide, keine Partys mehr, keine Drogen und ein schönes Zuhause für ihren zwölfjährigen Sohn Tim. Doch als ein Wohnungsnachbar, der Polizist Jan Landrock, vor ihrem Haus erschlagen aufgefunden wird und die Dresdener Kommissarinnen Gorniak und Winkler ermitteln, gerät der vorbestrafte Louis schnell unter Tatverdacht. Louis kann Anna überreden, ihn aus der Untersuchungshaft zu befreien. Gemeinsam mit Tim, der sich in Obhut des Jugendamtes befindet, wollen sie ins Ausland fliehen und dort ganz von vorn anfangen.
