In 1914, Roger, sixteen years old, arrives from college to spend the vacations in the vast family home in the country called Le Château. He feels quite alone in this domain even if his family and servants populate the place. His mother is very principled and his father runs a military supply factory. He has always wanted a career in the military. He hopes the war can save him from bankruptcy. His sisters are Elisa, a mannered young girl, is engaged to Roland, an ambitious air force officer, and Berthe, a very pernicious ten-year-old.
He also has servants like Kate the English housekeeper, Ursula the maid and Helene the cook. These are women who know Roger well, but who do not care about his young age.

At his age, Roger's sexuality begins to awaken. In spite of himself, he is present at all the love affairs on the estate. But then war breaks out and the men go off to fight. In the absence of male figures, Roger then dares to realize his temptations and his lusts. He seduces the women around him.
