Based loosely on the books "Never Sleep Three in a Bed" and "The Night We Stole the Mounties’ Car" by Max Braithwaite, the show tells the story of the Bailey family through the Great Depression. It was created by Canadian filmmaker Kevin Sullivan, who produced other programs such as Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea.
