Severed Brotherly Ties
Without seeing Yoritomo, Yoshitsune has to go back to Kyoto with Munemori and Kiyomune. Yoshitsune comes to harbor a suspicion against Yoritomo for what Yoritomo has done to him. For his part, Yoritomo becomes skeptical that Yoshitsune would revolt against him and starts to hatch a plot to prevent Yoshitsune from getting power in Kyoto. On the way to Kyoto, Yoshitsune stops in at a temple. Hearing that Shigehira was there a few days ago, Yoshitsune recalls with Munemori the old days they spend together. Before they get to Kyoto, one of Yoritomo’s retainers comes from Kamakura and conveys Yoshitsune Yoritomo’s order to kill Mumemori.
