Launch is scheduled for 4:05 PDT (11:05 UTC) on Saturday, May 5th.

NASA is launching their newest Martian lander which will be the first to probe the red planet. Insight will measure the temperature of the core of Mars, measure it's wobble and seismic activity and wobble! It's the first to study the core of the planet.

Mars insight is very lightweight. Only 694 kg (1,530 pounds) and was manufactured by Lockheed Martin. Insight is joined by two cubesats as well!

It will be launching on top of United Launch Alliances Atlas V rocket in the 401 configuration (4 meter fairing, 0 solid rocket motors, 1 upper stage engine) out of SLC 3E in Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The first interplanetary launch from Vandenberg!
