Grey Goo is a real-time strategy video game that was launched January 23, 2015. Grey Goo was developed by Petroglyph Games and published by Grey Box. Jake ‘The Voice’ Parr brings you the backstory to Gregoo only on Lore in a minute!
Backstory:
The Grey Goo story takes place 500 years after humans first started venturing outside of the Solar System in search of intelligent life. The Beta have fled their home planet from a threat they call “The Silent Ones”. While testing a wormhole they wanted to use to return to the stars, they are attacked by enemies that come in through the portal. The conflict between the Beta settlers and the enemies intensifies after which an explosion brings wrekcage to the entire planet. The Goo emerge from this and attack both sides.
Finally the Beta and the humans agree to ally and destroy the Goo which has gained AI capabilities. The Goo got it’s AI from the intelligent “Pathfinder” Von Neumann sent from Earth many years ago to advance human society. The Goo eventually was believed to be decommissioned but the Goo kept self-replicating and built it’s programming to become intelligent.
The robotic human commander Singleton sacrifices himself to destroy what he thought was the last of the Goo but ultimately his consciousness merges with the Goo. The Goo eventually fights its way to the last remaining Keyhole device after which Singleton tries to negotiate with the Humans and Betas. Saruk, Tak and some others are spared because Singleton believes they will be very important in the battle to come.
Gameplay:
Grey Goo allows players to choose from three factions including: The Humans, The Beta or the Goog. Players can choose to play single-player campaigns or play in multiplayer mode against other players.

Transcript:
In search of intelligent life beyond the Solar System, humans engineered the perfect tool to explore the universe’s darkest reaches; a self-replicating and ever-evolving construct called Goo. With the Goo having finally discovered an ecosystem capable of sustaining life, the humans travel to this new planet, the Nine. While rich in resources, the humans find no life and are convinced that they’re alone in the universe. They promptly return to Earth to live in isolation while the Goo continue to explore.
Hundreds of years later, a mysterious signal originating from Nine reaches Earth, and the humans immediately send an expedition to investigate signs of possible life. They discover Nine has become home to the Beta, a spacefaring race now broken, battered, and on the run from an enemy determined to destroy them all. Having decommissioned their last starship to start anew on Nine, the once-nomadic Betas have rebuilt their civilization and must defend it from those who threaten it.
The humans aren’t the only new arrivals, however. The Goo have returned after centuries of exploration and evolution. Having become hyper-intelligent and self-aware, the Goo have reassembled under a new directive: Consume all in its way. Now the humans, Betas, and Goo must fight for the survival of their species.
