Why are some Stargate Villains adored and others derided? (Clip)

It is an age-old question. Some villains we just love for their sophistication, their dialogue, or their style of clothing. For SG-1 there is no more polarizing a villain than Robert Kinsey. But why is this? Why is a character like Baal adored throughout fandom but Kinsey regularly torpedoed, despite solid writing and a wonderful performance by Ronny Cox? Are we projecting much?
