About Katamari Damacy:

Katamari Damacy is a puzzle video game or rolling ball game that was developed by Namco for the PlayStation 2 video game console. The game started as a school project from Namco Digital Hollywood Game Laboratory. The game centers around the Prince, known as the Prince of All Cosmos or Dashing Prince, who must rebuild the constellations, stars and Moon which were destroyed by his father. After its initial release in Japan, the game won several awards and led to the creation of seven sequels to the series.

Backstory:

The main story in the Katamari Damacy game centers around the King of All Cosmos who, after partying and drinking too much, destroys all the stars and celestial bodies orders his son to rebuild the cosmos using the Katamari. The Katamari is a magic ball the collects objects it comes in contact with and can create new stars, constellations and the moon once it collects enough objects. The prince eventually completes this task and the Cosmos are returned to normal.

Gameplay:

The gameplay for Katamari Damacy centers around the player controlling the prince to roll the Katamari around towns to get objects to stick to the Katamari. The primary mode, or “Make a Star” mode, requires a player to grow the katamari to a specific size within a certain amount of time. Other missions require the player to collect specific objects such as, swans, crabs or pairs, or big objects, such as a cow or bear, within a given time frame.

There are two secret items that can be found in each level, a royal present or a cousin of the Prince. The royal present usually includes an item that the Prince can wear. The second secret item is a cousin of the Prince which can only be collected once the game is beaten and can be used as a character in multiplayer modes.

Transcript:

In the universe, a supreme being exists with the power to shape and govern the cosmos... and throw one heck of a party!

When the King of All Cosmos visits Earth, rainbows burst from the mountaintops. The animals dance and sing, but learn that even a king can party too hard when he accidentally destroys the moon and all the stars.

Maybe no one will notice? Wrong! Today, the Hoshino family planned to see their astronaut father launch to the moon, but it doesn’t exist anymore due to a certain rager of the royal sort.

Now the king must do the only noble thing left... make his son fix it! Explaining that this is how father-son bonding works, he tells the prince to rebuild the night sky using a Katamari, a magical ball that sticks to objects smaller than itself and grows as more objects are collected. Once the katamari grows large enough it can form new stars, rebuild the moon, or confuse the pants off an astrophysicist.

You are the Prince of All Cosmos. Sure, the King likes to tell you he's disappointed that giant space royalty like himself has a pipsqueak for a son, but you'll show him. You'll build entire constellations by rolling up umbrellas, cows, and mountains with your katamari. Besides, you have a sweet soundtrack and a gigantic sticky ball to run over all the haters.
