Jamais, en France, la pratique du vélo n'avait connu un tel engouement. En augmentation constante depuis plusieurs années, elle a même explosé après le premier confinement (+ 30 % sur la seule période de mai à septembre 2020). L'an dernier, tous les records ont été battus : 1 784 km de nouvelles voies cyclables ouvertes sur le territoire français, 3,3 millions de vélos vendus en 2020 (25% de plus qu'en 2019, avec un pic à 120 % durant l'été), 200 000 locations de « vélibs » par jour en période de pointe à Paris, etc. Une véritable révolution qui a fortement impacté le transport et la circulation en milieu urbain et qui a entraîné des conséquences souvent inattendues sur les comportements.
