Een zeer gevaarlijk chemisch virus blijkt spoorloos te zijn verdwenen uit een medische faculteit. Dit tot grote schrik van de betrokken wetenschappers. Onmiddellijk wordt Valentijn door Suze gebeld. Hij besluit op bezoek te gaan bij zijn oude studiegenoot van de Sorbonne, Jean-Paul van Garderen, die net hoofd is geworden van deze medische faculteit waar het virus vandaan is verdwenen.
Niet lang nadat Valentijn met Van Garderen heeft gesproken, sterft diens collega professor Antonius Breck aan de gevolgen van een besmetting met het gestolen virus, het blijkt te gaan om moord.
Op zoek naar de dader ontmoet Valentijn de prachtige en getalenteerde Carol Milano, die nu promoveert tot professor en de verse weduwe Myrna Breck. Zij zit in een rolstoel dankzij een ongeluk dat jaren geleden plaatsvond in het laboratorium. Vooral Carol heeft direct de belangstelling van Valentijn, dat blijkt wederzijds...
