Vigil Season 3 premieres August 30: Amy Silva heads to the Arctic for a colder, bigger conspiracy

Vigil Season 3 premieres in just four days, on August 30, 2026, and Peacock’s tense British crime thriller is changing coordinates again. After turning military secrecy, political pressure and personal trauma into gripping television across its first two seasons, the series now heads into the Arctic, where the murder of a British citizen drags DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre into a volatile international crisis. That is the kind of premise Vigil does best: a suspicious death, an institution that does not want questions asked, and investigators forced to work while the world around them grows more dangerous by the hour.

For anyone who watched Vigil when it first became a word-of-mouth hit but needs a quick refresher, the essentials are simple. The series began with the disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death aboard a Trident nuclear submarine, forcing police into conflict with the Navy and British security services. DCI Amy Silva, played by Suranne Jones, became the show’s emotional and investigative anchor: brilliant, relentless, and often trapped inside systems designed to protect themselves. DS Kirsten Longacre, played by Rose Leslie, has been just as crucial on land, pushing through the human, political and logistical walls that form around every Vigil case.

What made the first seasons stand out was not only the mystery, but the pressure cooker surrounding it. Vigil is a crime drama, yes, but it is also a thriller about access: who is allowed to know the truth, who gets buried under “national security,” and how far public institutions will go to preserve authority. That makes it a natural recommendation for fans of Line of Duty, where police procedure becomes a battle against internal power, or Shetland, where landscape and community secrets shape the investigation. But Vigil has its own flavor: colder, more militarized, and more claustrophobic, even when it moves into open spaces.
