Hilde Schuster, eine lebenslustige ältere Dame, ist erschüttert: Ihr Mann Herbert liegt tot im Bett, und die Wohnung weist eindeutige Einbruchsspuren auf. Herbert wurde ermordet. Die untröstliche Witwe findet Gefallen an Toni, bewundert die couragierte Kommissarin und erzählt ihr Einzelheiten aus ihrem langen, harmonischen Eheleben. Toni hat große Empathie für Hilde, kommt aber bezüglich des Täters nicht weiter. Dann: ein weiterer Mord. Ein Zusammenhang zwischen den beiden Morden kann durch identische DNA an den unterschiedlichen Tatorten hergestellt werden. Und da kommt schon die Nachricht von einem dritten und bald von einem vierten Mord. Der Träger der DNA ist schnell ermittelt, streitet aber jede Schuld ab.
