Prof. Karl-Friedrich Boerne ist auf dem Nachhauseweg,als er Zeuge wird, wie ein alter Mann rücksichtslos von einem Auto überfahren wird. Als Boerne dem sterbenden Opfer zu Hilfe eilt, wird er beinahe selber überfahren. Der »Unfall« scheint ein gezielter Mordanschlag mit einer ungewöhnlichen Tatwaffe gewesen zu sein: Vater Thiels Taxi. Aber nicht nur Staatsanwältin Wilhelmine Klemm sträuben sich die Haare, als sie das Opfer erkennt, denn es handelt sich um Ludwig Mühlenberg, den als besonders gläubig geltenden Regens des Priesterseminars Sankt Vincenz. Und das in einer Stadt, in der, so Staatsanwältin Klemm, ein toter Priester soviel zählt wie zwei tote Bürgermeister oder drei tote Polizisten… Der in Glaubensfragen nicht unbedingt als bibelfest bekannte Kommissar Thiel ermittelt daraufhin im erzkatholischen Milieu zukünftiger Priester. Professor Boerne, der die Taxi-Attacke mit ein paar handfesten Frakturen überstanden hatte, muss derweil lernen, fremde Hilfe in seinem Junggesellenhaushalt und -leben zu ertragen. Für beide eine einschneidende Erfahrung!
