Völlig aufgelöst erscheint Betti Graf im Polizeipräsidium bei Anna Janneke und Paul Brix. Seit Tagen vermisst sie ihren Nachbarn Herrn Abendroth. Besonders verdächtig, ihm etwas angetan zu haben, ist für sie Nils Engels. Alle drei wohnen in ihren Einfamilienhäusern in einem Wendehammer. Nils ist IT-Spezialist, und als solcher hat er sein von der Großmutter geerbtes Haus zu einem „Smart House“ umgebaut. Das ganze Haus ist mit Überwachungskameras bestückt, es ist vollkommen „clean“. An seinen „analogen“ Nachbarn stört Nils von Grund auf alles. Diese wiederum machen Nils für das Verschwinden diverser Katzen und Hunde verantwortlich. Tatsächlich finden Janneke und Brix in Abendroths Haus Blutspuren. Dies könnte auf eine Gewalttat hindeuten. Mittlerweile jedoch stecken die beiden Hauptkommissare Janneke und Brix schon tief in den Streitigkeiten der Wendehammer-Bewohner um die smarte, digitale und die lebendige, analoge Welt.
