Das Dortmunder Team um Hauptkommissar Peter Faber und Hauptkommissarin Rosa Herzog haben es mit dem Thema häusliche Gewalt zu tun. Ihre Mutter wird mit einer Rauchvergiftung tot im Haus der Familie aufgefunden. Der Vater Jens Hielscher hat ein Alibi. Ihr Halbbruder Finn ist verschwunden. Zwar ist schnell klar, dass es sich bei dem Feuer um Brandstiftung handelt, ein Motiv ist jedoch zunächst nicht erkennbar. Die Tote heißt Meike Gebken.
