With her vivid imagination getting her into trouble at school, Luz Noceda, a 14-year-old Dominican-American teenager, is transferred to Reality Check Camp. While waiting for the bus, an owl takes her favorite book. Luz tries to catch it and lands right at a gate.
Luz lands in the Boiling Islands, a magical kingdom.
There she meets Eda, a very powerful witch from the Boiling Islands and a criminal wanted for selling items from the human world.
Eda takes Luz to the Owl House, where she introduces her to King, the self-proclaimed king of demons and Eda's roommate. Luz decides to stay with Eda and become a witch. She makes her mother believe that she has decided to stay at Reality Check Camp.
Having no powers, she becomes an apprentice at Owl Manor and finally finds a new family in an unlikely environment. She joins the Hexside school and befriends two wizards. Luz will meet Gus, a Hexside student who can do illusion magic, and Willow, who uses plant magic. The three friends will have as a rival, Amity Bright, a little terror from a rather powerful family.
