Il virus domina il Capitano Barnes, che si sente ora pienamente investito del potere di giudice al servizio della legge e come tale legittimato a giustiziare tutti coloro che la sua mente malata giudica colpevoli. Gordon, dopo che Symon in punto di morte gli rivela che e' stato Barnes a buttarlo di sotto, cerca conferma alla scottante verita', ma viene anticipato dallo stesso Barnes che lo attira in una trappola per metterlo davanti ad un aut aut: o con me o contro di me. Gordon, pur sapendo che un rifiuto equivale a una condanna, gli dice no.
