In 40 years, 60 % of wild animals have disappeared according to a WWF report. This includes the West African black rhino, China’s freshwater dolphin, and the Taughie frog. Sharks are also heavily threatened, victimised by their predator reputation and the growing trade in their fins in South America and Spain. Citizens worldwide are mobilising to save these species: the last puffins are protected on a French‑restricted Breton island; in Cameroon, police fight to preserve the remaining pangolins; and a French activist battles the sale of shark‑based dietary supplements.
