Welcome to the Corporate Casket, a semiweekly series where bad businesses go to die. We will discuss any and everything from bad charities, terrible CEOs, and businesses that have a lot to hide.
Today we’re going to talk about the Sackler Family. You may have heard that name in the news these past few months, maybe you even saw John Oliver’s overview of the situation. Recently, it’s been announced that the Sackler family is going to relinquish their ownership over Purdue, the company that bears the “lion’s share” of the opioid crisis. This might sound fantastic but trust me— you’ll want to hold off on any celebrations until the end. While the opioid crisis is incredibly complicated, we’re going to focus on how Purdue and, by extension, the Sackler Family contributed to it.
