Sampoong Department Store, a South Korean shopping mall, became a symbol of poor construction and profits over people when it collapsed. Not only were there consistent warning signs that the building was doomed to fail, but the mall was kept open even when structural engineers warned that the collapse was imminent. The people of Seoul were devastated by this tragedy, and Sampoong begs the question: why wasn't it shut down? How deep does this negligence go?
