About The Order: 1886

The Order: 1886 is a third-person shooter video game published by Sony Computer Entertainment exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on February 4, 2015. The Order: 1886 was developed by SCE Santa Monica Studio and Ready at Dawn. Jake ‘The Voice’ Parr brings you the backstory and history behind this new game title on Lore in a minute!

Game Launch:

Ready at Dawn began working on the game since 2010 and officially announced the game at Sony E3 2013. The game was officially launched February 20, 2015. There was a leaked full video playthrough of The Order: 1886 before the launch that showed the game could be completed in 5 hours. This was met with mixed reviews and was defended by the CEO of Ready at Dawn, Ru Weerasuriya.

Game Backstory:

The Order: 1886 takes place in an alternate history in London where some of humanity has evolved to become both animal and man. This leads to a war in which humans and half-breeds fight for centuries.

Hope is found when King Arthur creates The Knights of the Round Table, which includes the world’s best warriors and intellectuals to protect humanity. The vast amount of half breed monsters make Arthur and The Knights of the Round Table realize they are losing the battle. The Knights discover a substance called Blackwater, an elixir that boasts magical powers. The half breeds continue to win the battles until the dawn of the Industrial Revolution which brings weapons and new technologies.

With all these advances, the Order is unable to serve the majority of the population. Eventually the Order begins to only serve the rich while the less fortunate are constantly vulnerable to attack. The growing wealth gap between rich and poor sparks a rebellion against the aristocracy. The Order is then made to start fighting the less fortunate humans they once swore to protect.

Transcript:

Thousands of years ago, in an alternate timeline, a sliver of humanity evolved to gain distinct bestial traits. This evolutionary split led to an interspecies conflict between humans and half-breeds lasting centuries.

King Arthur created The Knights of the Round Table, an order of the world's best warriors and intellectuals, to protect humanity, but due to the sheer strength and numbers of the enemy, they were severely outmatched.

Luckily, the order came into possession of a mysterious substance called Blackwater, an elixir that would grant users long life, regenerative properties, and increased strength to help even the odds against the enemy. And with the dawn of the industrial revolution came extravagant and lethal weapons, giving humanity hope in the war against the half-breeds.

Despite these advantages, the Order was unable to serve London’s growing population. The rich and privileged eventually became the sole beneficiaries of the Order’s protection while the poor were left vulnerable to attack from the half-breeds still living amongst them. The gap between the rich and poor has sparked open rebellion against the aristocracy, and rumors of the rebels allying with the half-breeds have shaken their confidence. Now, The Order is charged with fighting those they once swore to protect.
