About Perfect Dark:

Perfect Dark is a first-person shooter developed by Rare and was launched on the Nintendo 64 game console. It was built using a modified version of the GoldenEye 007 engine. Perfect Dark was released May 22, 2000 on the N64 and was subsequently released on the Game Boy Color August 2000. It is considered one of the most advanced games built for the Nintendo 64 featuring high-resolution graphics and Dolby Surround Sound. The game launched with big commercial success selling more than three million units worldwide. This led to the development of many more properties for the Perfect Dark series including a prequel as well as novels, comic books and other merchandise.

Gameplay:

The game features a single-player mode with seventeen missions as well as multiplayer options. Perfect Dark is a first-person shooter where players control agent Joanna Dark through seventeen missions to stop a conspiracy led by dataDyne corporation. The gameplay is very similar to it’s predecessor, GoldenEye 007. In game, players can move through levels by crouching, ducking and leaning. Players have access to a vast range of weapons including: Handguns, Rifles, Submachine Guns, a Shotgun, Rocket Launchers, Combat Knives, Grenade Launchers, Various Explosives and Several Extraterrestrial Weapons. Players can carry an unlimited amount of weapons which have a primary and secondary mode for using the weapon in different ways as melee weapons.

Players must complete certain objectives to pass each level. There are three difficulty settings for each level which will affect aspects of the objectives to complete. If all levels are completed on highest difficulty, players can unlock a setting titled “Perfect Dark” in which players can customize many aspects of abilities.

There are three multiplayer systems including: Co-operative mode, Counter Operative mode and Combat Simulator. In Cooperative mode, two players or one player with many computer can complete missions together. In Counter Operative mode, one player plays the missions as Joanna while the other player plays the enemy to try to stop Joanna from completing the missions. In Combat Simulator, players enter the game unarmed with weapons and ammunition being placed around the map. In Combat Simulator, there are different scenarios including: deathmatch mode, capture the flag or king of the hill, hold the briefcase and hacker central.

Joanna Dark was born into a tough life. Her mother died shortly after childbirth and Joanna grew up with terrible spinal damage that required extensive experimental procedures.

Thinking that wasn't enough for a young kid to handle, Joanna's father Jack Dark, began training her for his line of work at age seven: fighting, firearms, and tracking criminals; everything a bounty hunter needed to know. Joanna didn’t socialize well growing up and spent most of her time in virtual reality training programs like DeathMatchVR, creating the most beautiful and socially awkward female lead since Zooey Deschanel put on a yellow sun dress.

On Joanna's first field mission, her father is killed, further scarring the tortured yet angelic killer. During this tragic event she is also introduced to and employed by the Carrington Institute, quickly becoming their top agent. Secretly, the Carrington Institute has been working with an alien race known as the Maians who have been at war with the lizard-like extraterrestrials called the Skedar. The Skedar disguise themselves on Earth as Scandinavians and are also discreetly working with the human organization dataDyne, the same company responsible for the DeathMatchVR programs Joanna grew up with.

Now codenamed, "Perfect Dark", Joanna is given a mission to rescue a defector from dataDyne, all the while uncovering a sinister conspiracy. Have fun!
