In the world of Eos, many nations once possessed magic crystals, but they were lost in years of warfare. Now, only one remains, in the Kingdom of Lucis. For generations, its King has protected Lucis with a magical barrier, fueled by the crystal and his own life energy, causing each monarch to age quickly. Using inherited summon swords and a ring which bestows the wisdom of previous kings, current King Regis protects the capital and has magically empowered a chosen unit of soldiers: The Kingsglaive.

While magic made Lucis thrive, neighboring nations turned to technology. A rival nation, Niflheim, conquered Eos until only Lucis remained, protected by Regis' magical barrier. But Regis lost his queen in an attack and his son was gravely injured, only awakening after seeing a mysterious light. The princess of Tenebrae, Lunafreya, nursed him to health, but Tenebrae was conquered by Niflheim and Lunafreya was taken.

Ten years later, Regis has reluctantly surrendered lands to Niflheim, arranged marriage between Noctis and Lunafreya, and proposed a treaty, but at the signing, Niflheim deceptively invaded.

Follow Kingsglaive soldier Nyx Ulric as King Regis tasks him to protect Lunafreya, now a powerful oracle able to talk to the gods. But it won't be easy! Niflheim has taken Lucis' magic crystal and the Kingsglaive's source of power.

About Final Fantasy XV:
Final Fantasy XV is an upcoming RPG from Square Enix and is the fifteenth installment in the long-running franchise. It follows Noctis as he fights to reclaim his kingdom and the world's last magic crystal. Originally directed by Tetsuya Nomura and later passed to Hajime Tabata, the game takes on a darker tone than its predecessors and features more realistic settings. The game was originally known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but was renamed at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

A prequel movie, Kingsglaive Final Fantasy XV, will also be released to tie in with the game. Announced in 2016 at the Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV event, it takes place both before and during the game, focusing on Noctis's father, King Regis, and Kingsglaive soldier Nyx Ulric. The film is directed by Takashi Hasegawa and produced by Hajime Tabata, and features the voice talents of Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad).
