When Nintendo applied for Trademarks on the names Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, gamers still had to wait for official confirmation, as Nintendo often trademarks placeholder titles that never get used. Some of these include Pokemon Scarlet, Topaz, Crimson, Tourmaline, and Moonstone. Also, Pokemon Brown and Gray because they can't all be exciting fake names.

A “general election” was held in Japan to find the most popular Pokemon, and out of 720 pocket monsters, Pikachu was dethroned by Greninja. How could the franchise mascot fall to a ninja with a tongue for a scarf, you ask? The winning Pokemon would be distributed as a free download, so that might have had something to do with it.

If you're a fan of Vulpix or Sandshrew and their evolutions in Sun and Moon, you may be looking in the wrong places. The former fire and ground types moved to the snow-capped mountains of the Alola Region, becoming Ice-Types.

For Pokemon Sun and Moon, the two titles have a time difference in the game clock. While Pokemon Sun operates in real time with your 3DS, Pokemon Moon will be set 12 hours apart because you would never stay up playing Pokemon Sun until 3AM, right?

The obligatory Professor for Pokemon Sun and Moon, Professor Kukui, continues the name scheme established by Professor Oak, Elm, Birch and more. The Kukui, or Candlenut, is the Hawaiian State Tree known for bearing a nut high in oil content. Meanwhile, Professor Kukui will definitely be known for baring skin. Girth remains to be seen.
