Sleepy Hollow 2x11: A Huge Disappointment aka The Akeda

Spoilers for Episode 2x11: The Akeda
Synopsis: Unforeseen sacrifices must be made and loyalties are put to the ultimate test in the fight against evil.

My Opinion:
Why, almighty Hera, is Katrina so fucking useless? From everything to already having little magical abilities to then having Purgatory suck her powers even more. It is almost sad how poorly this show has handled her. Not to mention this obsession with maternity. It is both tiring and insulting. It is tiresome because a woman is not just a womb and therefore shouldn't be so hypnotized by Henry. I understand that it is her son, but to abandon all her senses just seems silly to me. Especially if they end up validating her feelings. I'm reminded of season three of Xena where Gabrielle became impregnated by her own demon spawn and initially wanted to believe that it could be evil. In the end, Gabrielle's actions led to the death of Solan (Xena's son) and she was forced to eventually kill her child in the end. So unless Katrina and Henry end up in a pit of lava sometime soon I'm over it because this Henry redemption arc is tired as hell. Looking all confused when Moloh is telling him to sacrfice himself: did you not know who you were working for?

Abbie is the only one with her eyes on the prize and every episode just further emphases why she is such an important part of the show. Just like with Gwen, I feel like Abbie represents a character on television I have always wanted to see. A black woman who is a lead character: competent, brave, not just a "strong black woman" stereotype with ethnic juju. We have hundred of Ichabod Cranes, there is only one Abbie Mills. She is my fucking hero and I need her for that kid inside of me that still feels like she has no place in fantasy television.

Irving's death was upsetting, but as soon as I saw the episode all the signs were there. Black character with super limited screen time, little to no plot line, who suddenly appear and actually does things in an episode: PoC Redshirt 101. Sleepyheads this is not just about Frank, which is not to say that the loss of Frank is not a problem in it of itself, it is and screw the writers for it, but this is also about every black character who has never been killed off blindly and without care. It is about the expendable nature of our bodies and presence that is constantly justified by uncaring excuses. No one is saying that POC can't die on these shows, but to have the character place second fiddle for AN ENTIRE SEASON and then kill them off for the drama that is bullshit and it is insulting. Especially since we trusted this show and we trusted it do not treat us this way. Which is a rare thing, trust me.

Frank Irving (Sleepy Hollow)
Wells (The 100)
Tara Thorton (True Blood)
Every non white person but Bonnie (TVD)
Kendra (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
