Several actors over the years have struggled with the Vulcan Salute. William Shatner reportedly tied his fingers together with fishing line and most recent Spock actor, Zachary Quinto, had to glue his fingers into the iconic hand gesture.

The Sound Effect used in the 2009 Star Trek remake when the ships doors open is actually the flushing sound of a toilet on board a Russian train.

In Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, the men cast as Khan's ragtag crew were all Chippendale's dancers.

Star Trek is famous for having the first interracial kiss on television between William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols but the original script called for Leonard Nimoy and Nichols to kiss. According to Nichols, Shatner insisted he be the first and the scene was rewritten.

Gene Roddenberry believed that men in the future would have little or no body hair. For this reason, a studio barber had to shave Shatner's chest whenever Captain Kirk was to appear without a shirt on.

According to Nichelle Nichols, after her first year on the show she resigned, but reconsidered after a fan of the show advised her to stay. That fan: Martin Luther King Jr.!

Patrick Stewart originally signed on to The Next Generation for what he called "a paycheck and a suntan". The actor had little faith the show would succeed and even refused to unpack his bags for several weeks. The show eventually lasted 7 seasons and 178 episodes.
