The Legend of Zelda series' titular hero figure Link makes an appearance in EVERY Legend of Zelda game, and each time with a few minor differences. The ONE constant is that Link is ALWAYS a guy, to which at Game/Show ask…why? According to lore, every Link is actually just a version of the "Hero of Time," and a girl link actually fits into this definition, so, why not?
