A video essay about Netflix's Death Note
Like I say in the beginning, I don't think Death Note was a terrible movie. On it's own, it's not that bad.
But, when you compare Netflix's Death Note with the original Death Note manga and anime, there is a lot that went wrong.
Instead of nitpicking every small problem, the main thing I wanted to focus on was Light.
The difference between Light in Netflix's Death Note and Light in the Death Note manga makes it so the entire story feels different. We're not watching a tragic story of someone who had everything and still wanted more. Now it's just a regular teen superhero movie.
The very thing that made the original story so appealing is lost.
