Transcript:

Though the Suicide Squad's concept as a team of villains taking impossible missions for commuted sentences debuted in the late 80's, the Suicide Squad, by name only, first appeared in 1959 in Brave and the Bold #25 as a team of scientists and military personnel. Writer John Ostrander was hired to revive the team after DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths reboot and spun it into the Squad we know today.

After former Batgirl, Barbara Gordon was paralyzed by the Joker in Alan Moore's graphic novel "The Killing Joke," she made her first reappearance in the Suicide Squad comic series. Though confined to a wheelchair and renamed Oracle, Barbara became an information broker, a recurring alter-ego in several Batman iterations for years to come.

Actor Jared Leto insisted on remaining in character as the Joker during production, even gifting Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie with a pet rat. Robbie kept the rat and named it Rat Rat. To zero in on the perfect Joker laugh, Leto would practice on the street and in restaurants in New York and Toronto to see which would get under people's skin. He even practiced on stage while touring with his band, 30 Seconds to Mars.

Margot Robbie personally tattooed several cast and crew members with matching "SKWAD" tattoos, but accidentally misspelled her first attempt "SWAD". Actor Joel Kinnaman had Will Smith do his tattoo, an experience he described as "like watching a drunk baby fly a helicopter."

To get the actors to loosen up, director David Ayer not only had the cast reveal their worst fears and the meanest things they'd ever done, he allegedly also had them fight each other, saying, "You learn a lot about who a person really is when you punch them in the face. It gets rid of all the actor stuff."
