Super Mario Fast Facts!

LORE brings you fast facts on Super Mario 64 and the history of mario characters.

Creation of Super Mario MIPS Rabbit:
Nintendo creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, created a simple garden test level where they worked on Mario's controls by chasing MIPS the rabbit, which was one of the very first things made for the game. The developers liked the rabbit so much they left him in the game. MIPS, named after the Nintendo 64's processor, has since appeared in recent games like Super Mario 3D World.

Super Mario Thomps Creatures:
Thomps, which debuted as enemies in the game, are inspired by a Japanese mythological creature known as "Nurikabe". This Super Mario Character is supposedly able to expand infinitely in size and take the form off walls to trick travelers and dumb people.

Luigi Character & History:
The Luigi character was originally going to be in the game as a playable character. The developers planned for the gameplay to start with Mario and Luigi at different spots of the castle and work their way through together. Unfortunately Luigi was cut, forever dooming him as the franchise benchwarmer.

Mario History:
The Super Mario Franchise became a big hit with the original launch of the Super Mario video game series. The game follows the adventures of Mario through Mushroom Kingdom where he is usually accompanied by Luigi, his brother, and other members of the Super Mario cast. Super Mario 64 brought the Mario characters to life in a 3D multi dimensional game world.
