On October 14, 2026, A Discovery of Witches was officially marked as "Ended." For longtime fans this confirms what they already knew, and for new viewers it's good news. The British fantasy drama, based on Deborah Harkness's bestselling All Souls Trilogy, finished its run with three seasons and 25 episodes. Season 1 premiered on Sky One in September 2018, and the final episodes aired in early 2022. The "Ended" label isn't a sudden cancellation. It just puts on record that Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont's story is finished, and that you can watch all of it from start to finish.
To be clear, A Discovery of Witches wasn't cut short. Producers and cast always planned it as three seasons, one for each novel: A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night and The Book of Life. Teresa Palmer said years before the finale that Season 3 would be the last, so the writers had time to bring the story to a proper close. Many fantasy shows get cancelled on a cliffhanger, but this one got to finish on its own terms. If you've held off because you were worried about an unresolved ending, you don't need to.
Season 1 is where it all starts. Diana Bishop, played by Teresa Palmer, is a historian at Oxford and a witch who has spent years ignoring her powers. In the Bodleian Library, she calls up a manuscript that has been lost for centuries, and its spell pulls her right back into the world of magic. Every creature who wants the book's secrets starts watching her, including Matthew Clairmont. Matthew Goode plays him as a vampire geneticist who is cool, careful and very old. Witches and vampires have distrusted each other for centuries, but the two team up to protect the manuscript and work out what it says about the origins of magical beings.
