In 2005, 17 game developers from some game called World of Warcraft grew tired of the monotony of Ironforge and left Blizzard Studios with the earnest dream of creating an MMO entirely from scratch. Headed by Kevin Beardslee, Tim Cain and Jeremy Gaffney, they recruited prominent talent from games such as Metroid Prime, Fallout, and Half-Life 2. In 2007, Carbine Studios was officially announced as part of NCSOFT.

As they went public, Carbine Studios began working on their top-secret project, Vulcan mind melding together their wealth of experience to establish three key elements of a successful MMORPG: a unique art style, an evocative and immersive world with a rich lore, and innovating the genre by allowing players to play how they want to play via the path system. Through research, AKA going up to someone and asking them what they like, the studio identified four distinct play styles: the explorer, the scientist, the jerk who ganks low-level newbs, and the social person who is still really into Second Life.

In 2011, Wildstar was announced to much fanfare, featuring cartoonishly fun graphics, skill-based combat, and most importantly, player housing so you can invite your friends over without having to see them in real-life. Have fun!
